Charles "Doc" Oliver Castledine, JR was born on March 18, 1921 at the Windom Hospital to Charles and Margaret (Cowan) Castledine. He was baptized and later confirmed at the First United Methodist Church in Windom. He received his education from Windom Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1939. After high school, Doc attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa for one year and then the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota for one year before enlisting in the United States Army Air Force on August 31, 1942 where he served until being honorably discharged on February 12, 1946. Doc attended the National Chiropractic College in Lombard, Illinois where he graduated with his Doctorate of Chiropractic in 1949. Doc met Lois Goetz at the church he attended in Chicago where Lois' mother was the choir director and organist. They were united in marriage on February 25, 1949, in Chicago. This marriage was blessed with three children, Judy, Lynne and David. Doc and Lois made their home in Windom where Doc was a Chiropractor from 1949 until retiring in 1998. He was also a hearing aid dispenser for twenty-five years. He moved into the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom in 2014 where he lived until passing away on Sunday afternoon, November 6, 2016 at the age of 95. Doc was a member of the Minnesota Chiropractic Association and the Minnesota Hearing Aid Society where he served on the boards. While in Chicago, Doc was involved in the church there where he was in the choir and served as President and a member of the church board. Once moving back to Windom, Doc was a member of American Lutheran Church for thirty-five years and served as the President of the congregation, taught Sunday school and sang in the Senior Choir and Gospelaiers. He then attended Living Word Lutheran Church from 1989-2012 where he was President and a member of the board. Doc played trombone in the Windom City Band and the Bobcats Dance Band in the '50's and in the pit orchestra for Music Man, Oklahoma and South Pacific in the '60's. He was a member of the Windom Chordhustlers for many years. Doc was a member of the Windom Jaycees, receiving the Outstanding Young Man of MN in 1955, Windom United Services, Windom Airport Commission, chairman of Windom Committee to get Southwest MN College (now "U") in Windom, Legion Club Board, Highway 60 Action Corp, Windom City Council and was elected Windom Mayor where he was involved in many committees. Doc was a board member of State Bank of Jeffers and of BARC. He was also an Eagle Scout in 1937. He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Lois Castledine of Windom; three children, Judy (Warren) Moe of Burnsville, Lynne Kessler of Windom and David Castledine of St. Paul; three grandchildren, Silas Eaton of Stevens Point, WI, Daniel Eaton of Los Angelos, CA, and Leah Eaton of Windom; one great-granddaughter, Laci Eaton of Windom; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Margaret Castledine; son-in-law, Paul Kessler; and brothers, Bill Castledine of Washington and Franklin (Jack) Castledine of Willmar.
