De Lorris Ruth Anderson Quiring was born on August 3, 1922, in rural Butterfield, Minnesota to the late Theodore and Maude (Johnson) Anderson. She was baptized on August 27, 1922, and confirmed on June 18, 1937, at Kansas Lake Lutheran Church. The church was only three miles from the Anderson farm.
De Lorris attended school at District 31 in Odin Township. She graduated from Butterfield High School with the class of 1941. De Lorris met Alvin Quiring in 1940. They became engaged on December 7, 1941, the day of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. They were married on February 25, 1942. This marriage was blessed with three sons, Richard, Gary and James.
In the beginning of their life together, De Lorris and Alvin lived in Butterfield. In 1955, they moved their family to Belmont Township in Jackson County, where the boys attended school. In the 1960-1961 schoolyear, De Lorris and her family welcomed Ingo Glaser, a foreign exchange student from Brazil. He continues to be an important member of their family to this day. Alvin and De Lorris visited Ingo and his family in Brazil several times. Alvin and De Lorris enjoyed traveling together throughout the years.
After moving to Windom in 1969, Alvin and De Lorris joined the American Lutheran Church where she was involved with WELCA, Altar Guild and Circle. Her faith in Jesus Christ was foremost in her life and was evident in the way she lived.
Alvin and De Lorris enjoyed their retirement, spending summer time at their lake home in Nisswa and winters in Mesa AZ.
De Lorris suffered a stroke at age 90 and became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom. She remained there until passing away on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the age of 96 years.
De Lorris is survived by her three sons, Richard (Betty) Quiring of Medford; Gary (Laurel) of Arnolds Park, IA; James (Crystal) Quiring of Chaska; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Tieman of Minneapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
De Lorris is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; sister, Eleanor Ringen and brother, James Anderson.
