Donald J. Larsen was born on July 20, 1929, the first born son to Chris and Marie (Johnson) Larsen in Storden, Minnesota. He was baptized and later confirmed at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden. He graduated from Storden High School in the Class of 1947. After high school, Don worked for one year at the First State Bank of Storden. He was drafted in 1951 and served in the Korean War until returning home in 1953. After Don returned home he started farming where he farmed Section 13 of Southbrook Township for 42 years. On May 18, 1952, Don was united in marriage to Margaret McCall in Guthrie Center, Iowa. This marriage was blessed with four children, James, Alan, Carol and Mark. In 1989, Don and Margaret moved to Windom, Minnesota. Since retiring in 1995, Don and Margaret loved to spend five months in Arizona. Don also drove for the Coop, worked for Kruse Construction and Towlerton Motors. In 2000, due to Fabry's disease Don received a kidney transplant from his daughter-in-law, Judy. Don passed away on Saturday evening, September 8, 2012 at his home in Windom at the age of 83. Don was a member at Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden where he served on the church council, taught Sunday school and was an usher. When Don and Margaret moved to Windom they became members of the American Lutheran Church. Don served on the Southbrook Township Board for 31 years. He was a member of the Corn Growers, Holiday Ramblers, Prairie Riders, Cottonwood County Cattleman and a member of the Windom Lions Club. Don loved to ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle and spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Margaret Larsen of Windom; four children, Jim Larsen and his wife, Torasie, of Willmar; Alan Larsen and his wife, Mary, of Glencoe; Carol Rosenbrook and her husband, Brent, of Sioux Falls, SD; and Mark Larsen and his wife, Carmen, of Knoxville, TN; fourteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Dean Larsen of Holiday Island, AR; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Arlo Larsen; and two sisters, Dorothy Extein and Arlene Hildreth. Blessed be the memory of Donald Larsen.
