Earl Walter LaMaack was born on September 5, 1927, in Rosehill Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to Walter and Olga (Wahl) LaMaack. He was baptized on October 16, 1927 in Windom, Minnesota and later confirmed on May 4, 1941 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Windom. He attended rural school and Windom Public Schools. Earl served in the United States Navy (Seabees) from June 27, 1945 to August 18, 1946. On August 18, 1950, in Storden, Minnesota, Earl was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Earp. This marriage was blessed with four children, Susan, Larry, Curtis and Ann. After their marriage, Earl and Barb lived in Windom where Earl worked for the City of Windom's Public Utilities from 1950 to 1973. In 1973, Earl and Barb moved to Alexandria, Minnesota where Earl worked as the General Manager of the Public Utilities until 1986 when he retired. In 1996, Earl and Barb moved to Blue Earth, Minnesota where they lived until Earl passed away on Tuesday afternoon, September 18, 2012, at the age of 85. Earl's lifelong dedication to public power led to many awards and positions of regional and national importance; including election to the American Public Power Association Board of Directors, serving as Chairman of Missouri River Energy Services Board of Directors, and President of the Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association. He loved to fish, bird hunt, and travel. He was a talented painter, cartoonist, and woodcarver, but most of all he loved getting together with family and friends. He was very dedicated to his family and public power. Earl was also a faithful servant which he showed by serving as Sunday School Superintendent, congregational President, and Elder in various Missouri Synod Lutheran Churches; and as a member of the Mission Board - Minnesota North District. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara LaMaack of Blue Earth; three children, Larry LaMaack and his wife, Tish, of Lusk, WY; Curtis LaMaack and his wife, Bette, of Blue Earth; and Ann Andersh and her husband, Craig, of Lakeville; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild; one great-grandchild; six step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Elaine Crowell of Walnut Grove; one sister-in-law, Shirley Schoenenberger of Windom; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Susan LaMaack; one step-granddaughter, Debbie Mangrum; one brother, Eugene LaMaack; one sister-in-law, Barbara LaMaack; two brothers-in-law, Clyde Crowell and Melvin Schoenenberger; and one niece, Kathy Nielsen.
