Ella Ida Martha Giese was born on September 25, 1918, in Amo Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to the late Eric H. and Ida (Reese) Krahn. She was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers. She attended school District 44 and Jeffers Public Schools; graduating in the Class of 1935. On January 27, 1940, Ella was united in marriage to Arthur "Buck' Giese and lived in Jeffers for three years. This marriage was blessed with three sons, Kent, Dallas, and Arthur. They then farmed near Jeffers until retiring in 1977. After retiring, Ella and Buck moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota where they lived for 18 years. While there they enjoyed fishing, time spent outdoors and spending time with family. In June, 1996, they returned to Jeffers and purchased a home. In October 2008, Buck and Ella moved into Eventide Assisted Living Center in Mt. Lake, MN. Ella later moved to the Good Samaritan-Sogge Memorial in Windom where she lived until passing away on Saturday evening January 26, 2013, at the age of 94. Ella was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers where she served on the funeral committee and was a member of the ladies circle. Ella enjoyed baking, playing cards, Yahtzee, visiting neighbors and friends and playing with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for being a wonderful mom and a fabulous grandma and great-grandma. She is survived by two sons, Kent Giese and his wife, Mary, of Duluth and Dallas "Butch" Giese and his wife, Joan, of Jeffers; eight grandchildren, Pamela Busswitz and her husband, Brian, of Westbrook; Elizabeth Whiteford of Grand Rapids; Greg Giese and his wife, Kim, of St. James; Stephanie Giese of Branson West, MO; Kristine Mertesdorf and her husband, Chris, of Byron; Kerri Oltmans and her husband, Scott, of Windom; Jody Wolner and her husband, Mike, of St. James; and Ann Rudolph of Cuyuna; twelve great-grandchildren, Heather Devries, Miranda Giese, Jackson Oltmans, Cameron Giese, Noah Mertesdorf, Evan Oltmans, Kaylyn Rudolph, Olivia Rudolph, Carter Wolner, Ava Mertesdorf, Madelyn Oltmans, Peyton Wolner, Chloe Oltmans, Brayden Ellis, Thomas Wolner, and Karsen Ellis; sister-in-law, Betty Krahn of Jeffers, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arthur "Buck" Giese; one son, Arthur L. "Chip" Giese; two sisters, Agnes Larsen and Emma Williamson; and one brother, LeRoy Krahn.
