Frieda "Fritzi" Rogene Hawks was born on November 18, 1923 on the family farm outside Lakefield, Minnesota to Paul and Minnie (Collins) Wedeking. She received her education from Lakefield Public School. After high school, Fritzi attended Business School in Chicago, where she worked as a bookkeeper and censor, and then as a bookkeeper in St Paul. Fritzi enlisted in the United States Marines where she served from February 7, 1944 to May 4, 1946. On August 6, 1949, Fritzi was united in marriage to Lloyd George Hawks in Hibbing, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with four children, Lloyd Jr., Becky, Greg, and Kent. After marriage, Fritzi and Lloyd lived in Lakefield where Fritzi worked as a clerk at the post office. In 1971 they moved to Windom where Fritzi worked as a bookkeeper and retired as a clerk at the county courthouse. Lloyd passed away on January 6, 2006. Fritzi moved to Friendship Home Communities in Roseville, Minnesota in October 2010, where she lived until passing away peacefully in hospice care on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the age of 89. Fritzi was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Windom where she had been active in her Circle group. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the American Legion in Windom. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, gardening, nature, and walking and playing games and cards with friends and family. She is survived by four children, Lloyd Hawks Jr. of New Richland; Becky Edberg and her husband, Dan, of Roseville; Greg Hawks and his wife, Linda, of Maple Grove; and Kent Hawks and his wife, Anna, of St. Paul; five grandchildren, Mindi, Mariya, Alissa, Anna and Cecilia; one brother, Roger Wedeking and his wife, Darlene, of Lakefield; one sister, Rosamond Hochstein of Battle Lake; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Minnie; husband, Lloyd; one brother, Paul Gordon Wedeking; and three sisters, Margaret Denton Smith, Gertrude Gunther, and Ethel Lucks.
