Obituary

Johanna "Jenny" Emma (Stadtlander) Sell was born on November 28, 1901, in Hardin County, near Eldora, Iowa to Carl and Gertie (Schultz) Stadtlander. The family moved by Mountain Lake, Minnesota in Cottonwood County in 1907 and farmed in Midway and Selma Townships. She received her education in District 27 county school. On June 9, 1937, Johanna was united in marriage to William (Bill) Sell in Mountain Lake. This marriage was blessed with four children, DuWaine, Arlo, Twila and Marlene. After marriage, Bill and Johanna farmed in Amo Township until he passed away on May 6, 1958. Johanna then moved to Windom in 1961. She did odd cleaning, baby and adult sitting jobs around town and formed many lasting friendships. She lived in her own home until she turned 98. She then went into assisted care at Heritage House in Windom. In 2005, at the age of 104, Johanna moved into the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom. She lived there until passing away on Tuesday morning, May 1, 2012, at the Windom Area Hospital at the wonderful age of 110. Johanna was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, baking, cooking, taking care of her lawn, and doing general farm work, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. She is survived by four children, DuWaine (Nancy) Sell of Windom, Arlo (Pat) Sell of Windom, Twila (Glenn) Mattison of Lamberton and Marlene (Arlo) Engler of Windom; 15 grandchildren, DuWaine's children, Wanda, Wendy, Daniel, Mindy, Veronica, and Dean; Arlo's children: Steven, Timothy and Kenneth; Twila's children: Cheryl, Gaylen, Paula and Gary; and Marlene's children: Dale and Darla; 36 great-grandchildren; 13 great- great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Edna Stadtlander of Comfrey; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; brothers, Fred, Carl Jr., Christian and Arthur; sister, Bena Evers; and daughter-in-law, Norma Cooley Sell. Blessed be the memory of Johanna Sell.
