LaVonne Beverly Jordin was born on August 21, 1924, in Windom, Minnesota to the late Kermit Paul and Margaret Concordia (Saxhaug) Maher. She was baptized at an early age at the American Lutheran Church in Windom and was later confirmed in that same church. LaVonne received most of her education in the Windom Public Schools before moving with her family to New Ulm where she graduated in the Class of 1942.
On December 25, 1943, LaVonne was united in marriage to Albert W. Jordin in Cosmos, Minnesota. From the time of their marriage, they made their home near Cosmos until 1954 when they moved to Windom. For nine years, LaVonne and Albert co-owned Ray's Café in Windom. LaVonne and Albert were blessed with two children, Maggie and Jon. LaVonne's family was her highest priority in life as she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Albert passed on April 7th, 2000, and after his death, LaVonne remained in her own home in Windom for one year before moving to Minneapolis where she lived for five years. She then returned home to Windom and entered the Sogge Good Samaritan Society-Windom in September of 2006. On Thursday afternoon, September 25th, 2008, LaVonne passed away at the Sogge Good Samaritan Society, with Maggie at her bedside, at the wonderful age of 84.
LaVonne was a longtime, dedicated member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and Circle. She also was a Girl Scout Leader in her earlier years and an election judge. LaVonne will be remembered as a "people" person as the coffee pot was always on. She was very spirited and "one of a kind". During the holidays many non-family members shared the times with her family. She enjoyed and loved children, especially her grandchildren. LaVonne also enjoyed collecting antiques, decorating, and watching the Minnesota Vikings.
LaVonne is survived by one daughter, Maggie Grein and husband, Jerry, of Minnetonka; one grandchild, Jared and wife, Joy of Savage; two great-grandchildren, Brittany and Dustin of Savage; sister, Bette Marsh of Tucson, AZ; brother, Darrell Maher of Tucson, AZ; and nieces and nephews.
LaVonne is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert Jordin; one son, Jon Jordin; and one brother, Ronald Maher.
Blessed be the memory of LaVonne B. Jordin.
