Obituary

Lois Mae Erickson was born on April 13, 1924 to Olaf and Margaret Erickson, the oldest of 4 children. She grew up on a farm north of Windom; she attended and graduated from Windom High School. In Minneapolis, Lois went to business school and as a gifted violin player also attended MacPhail School of Violin. She met her husband, Merle Kingery, at a barn dance in 1945 and they were married a year later in 1946. She continued to reside on a farm south of Jeffers where she and Merle had lived together for 58 years. As everyone knows, Lois always knew how to have fun; she always exhibited such a zest for life! She thoroughly enjoyed her family, friends and her activities. She led a blessed life. She was an exceptional (and darn lucky) card player. She enjoyed beating her kids at cribbage and was delighted to play bridge multiple days a week with people she treasured as friends for many years. She also loved playing piano and entertaining; she accompanied a fiddler for a long time and has more recently enjoyed accompanying an accordion player. They entertained in many venues from community events to senior homes. She was a beautiful singer, she participated in church choir and always had fun singing and playing piano with her sister and best friend, Marion. She and Merle were both skillful bowlers for countless years, bowling in multiple leagues: men's, women's and mixed doubles. She worked hard helping on the farm yet always had time to cook and bake homemade bread, chocolate chip cookies and other wonderful and tasty desserts. She was a long time active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Windom; participating in Dorcas Circle, teaching Sunday school and serving as a Deacon for many years. She lit up a room when she walked in. Her light, energy and fun spirit will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle, her brother Edgar and sister Marion. Lois is survived by three children Bradley (Pam), Stanley (Nancy) and Kathryn Kingery, all of Colorado, her brother John who lives in Florida and several nephews and nieces great nephews and great nieces.
