Mary Kathryn Herrig was born in Storm Lake, Iowa on March 30, 1940 to Henry and Sadie (Rydberg) Herrig. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Galva, Iowa on May 5, 1940 and later confirmed at Faith Lutheran in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. She was raised at Schaller, Iowa until moving to Sioux Rapids in 1945. She received her education and graduated from Sioux Rapids High School in the Class of 1958. Mary then attended commercial extension in Omaha, Nebraska. She worked at Georges Drug and also was a bookkeeper for Sioux Implement. She was united in marriage to Ronald Johnson on March 27, 1960 at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. This union was blessed with two daughters, Lynn and Kimberly. They lived on an acreage south of Sioux Rapids and Linn Grove until 1965 when Ron was transferred to Bingham Lake, Minnesota. After moving to Minnesota, Mary was a bookkeeper for John Deere Implement for fifteen years until joining the USPS in Windom and Bingham Lake for another fifteen years. Mary and Ron lived in Bingham Lake until 1971 when they purchased the Bill Fuller farm. Mary helped with the farming and livestock operation and enjoyed keeping her yard groomed. In April of 2016, Mary moved into the Good Samaritan Society-The Village in Mountain Lake, Minnesota where she lived until passing away on Sunday morning, June 12, 2016 with her family by her side. Mary was active in the community where she belonged to the Bingham Lake Progress Club, Lakeside Tuesday Club, sextet group, SAS, RSVP and volunteered at the Windom Area Hospital. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. Mary enjoyed sending cards and visiting the shut-ins. Mary and Ron enjoyed traveling to Europe and throughout the United States. She also enjoyed attending her granddaughter's music and sporting events. Mary is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Larry) Brandt of Mountain Lake and Kim (Paul) Adamson of Savage; four granddaughters, Caitlin and Chanah Brandt of Mountain Lake and Lindsey and Laura Adamson of Savage; step-grandson, Jared (Jill) Brandt and their sons, Jacob and Drew of Mankato; sister, Margaret Jaeckel of Council Bluffs, IA; brother, Henry (Teri) Herrig of Le Mars, IA; sisters-in-law, Kaye (Butch) Johnson of Monmouth, IL, Gail (Dave) Nichols of Ely and Janet Johnson of Spencer, IA; brother-in-law, Steve (Lynn) Johnson of Morton; family friend Dick Jaeckel of Omaha, NE; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron in 2001; her parents, Henry and Sadie Herrig; brother, Richard Herrig; father and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Frances Johnson; and brother-in-law, Kurt Johnson.
