Obituary

Mary Jane Gjengdahl was born June 21, 1924 in Ortonville, Minnesota to Rasmus Nicolai and Christine Elise (Lyseng) Gjengdahl. She was baptized and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville and graduated from Ortonville High School in 1942. On June 5, 1947, she was united in marriage to Robert Alan Haas. This marriage was blessed with three children: Kathleen, Robert and Janelle. They made their home in Ortonville, MN, Willmar, MN and Redwood Falls, MN before moving to Windom, MN in 1957 where Mary worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for over 30 years until she retired in 1983. On October 17, 1967 Robert passed away from cancer. On March 19, 1971, Mary was united in marriage to Lyle James Snook in Windom where they made their home on Lyle's farm north of Windom. Mary was a member of American Lutheran Church in Windom. She enjoyed baking, helping Lyle on the farm, traveling, crocheting and knitting. Mary made countless afghans for her grateful family who will treasure them forever. Mary passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, surrounded by her children, at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 27 days. Mary's loving family includes her children, Kathy (Dan) Beam of Windom; Robert (Yvonne) Haas of Sioux Falls, SD and Janelle Haas (Jerry Myers) of Windom; three step-children, Peggy (John) Roll of Bingham Lake; Gary (LaRaye) Snook of Lynd, MN and Perry Snook of Windom; six grandchildren, Joshua, Melissa and Melanie Beam all of Windom and James, Alan and Kimberly Haas of Sioux Falls, SD; six step-grandchildren, Clay (Mellissa) Roll of Bingham Lake; Mindy (Todd) Weeks of Wentzville, MO; Gary Snook, Jr. of Bismarck, ND; Kautia Snook of Lynd; Kayla and Kaitlyn Snook of Chelmsford, MA; two great-grandchildren, Angel and Ania Beam of Heron Lake; four step-great-grandchildren, Jackson and Brooklyn Roll of Bingham Lake; Chance and Summer Weeks of Wentzville, MO; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Robert Haas; husband, Lyle Snook; granddaughter, Amanda Haas; grandson, Jeremy Beam; step-great-granddaughter, Alexandra Roll; brother, Edgar Gjengdahl; and sisters, Ruth Steen and Evelyn Gjengdahl.
