Myron Dean Hanson was born in Colome, Tripp County, South Dakota, on June 20, 1934, to Maylon Victor and Laura Augusta (Krueger) Hanson. He was baptized on August 4, 1935, with his parents as his sponsors. He was later confirmed on April 15, 1951, at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Butterfield, Minnesota. Myron spent his infant years in Gregory, South Dakota, and the rest of his childhood in Ormsby, Minnesota, where he received his education at the Watonwan County District 33 Rural School. In the summer of 1954, Myron rescued a young woman named Loretta Ruth Heffele from a rainstorm at the park in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, where she was attending a musical festival with the Jeffers, Minnesota, High School. A romance blossomed, and on October 12, 1956, on a warm and beautiful Friday evening, Myron and Loretta were united in marriage at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mountain Lake, Minnesota, with the Reverend Reuben L. Ehlen officiating the ceremony. In 1957, Myron and Loretta moved to the State of Washington after he was drafted in the Army. Myron was stationed in Tacoma, Washington, and Anchorage, Alaska, from 1957 to 1959. While living in Washington, they became new parents with the birth of their first daughter, Tracey. The family of three returned to Butterfield in 1959 following Myron's honorable discharge from the Army. Upon their return to Minnesota, Myron then worked at the Butterfield Elevator in Butterfield, Minnesota, during which time their second daughter, Paige, was born. They relocated to Hendricks, Minnesota, in 1967. While residing in Hendricks, they welcomed their third daughter, Amy. Myron farmed and managed the Hendricks Farmers Elevator from 1967 to 1979, when he accepted a job with South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota, as an Agricultural Research Technician in the Animal and Range Science Department. He retired from SDSU in 1998 after 19 years of service. Myron and Loretta moved from their Hendricks farm into the City of Hendricks in 2000, where they enjoyed spending their retirement together working in their yard with vegetable and flower gardens and doing woodworking projects. They spent a lot of time in their screen porch, sipping a cup of coffee and enjoying nature. In October 2013, Myron and Loretta moved to Windom, Minnesota. On December 31, 2014, Myron became a resident at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home – Jackson, Minnesota. Myron was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hendricks, Minnesota, from 1967 to 2014, when he became a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Darfur, Minnesota. Myron and Loretta shared 58 years of marriage before the Lord took Loretta home on March 1, 2015. Myron was a very skilled and perfected wood craftsman and also enjoyed polka music, family get-togethers, playing cards, BINGO, and fishing. He took great pride in his family, especially his grandchildren. Myron is survived by daughters Tracey (Ronald) Hanson Schramel, Windom, Minnesota; Paige (John) Scholl, Austin, Minnesota; Amy (Mark) Bauer, New Ulm, Minnesota; two grandsons, Hunter Johnson, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Landon Johnson, Windom, Minnesota; one granddaughter, Grace Bauer, New Ulm, Minnesota; two step-grandchildren, Jonah Scholl, Dunwoody, Georgia, and Anya Scholl, Durham, North Carolina; three step-great-grandchildren – Chloe and John Lawson Scholl and Samantha Neppl; a sister, Loretta Bottin, Windom, Minnesota; brothers Marvin (Janice) Hanson, Odin, Minnesota, and DeLyle (Carol) Hanson, Holmen, Wisconsin. Myron was preceded in death by his loving wife, Loretta Hanson; parents, Maylon and Laura Hanson; parents-in-law, Frederick and Amanda Heffele; step-mother-in-law, Elisabeth Heffele; and brother-in-law, Ervin Bottin.
