Obituary

A Celebration of Life to honor the life and legacy of Alice DeWall, age 93, of Okabena, will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM, with a time of visitation and gathering for one and a half hours prior to the service.

Alice passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington.

Alice Marie Ulbricht DeWall was born on November 12, 1932, in Ewington Twp., Jackson County, MN. She was the daughter of Edgar & Frieda Post Ulbricht. She was baptized into the Christian faith on Dec. 4, 1932, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rost Twp., Jackson County.

She attended grade school at Dist. 127 and St. Paul's Lutheran School and was confirmed at St. Paul's on April 14, 1946. Alice attended Okabena High School and Bethany Lutheran High School at Mankato, MN, graduating in 1950. She graduated from The College of Medical Technology in Minneapolis in 1951.

On November 11, 1951, she was united in marriage to Kenneth DeWall at St. Paul's. The couple lived and farmed in Alba Township. She was employed at the Okabena Municipal Liquor Store and was co-manager with her husband from 1975 to 1992. Before retirement, she worked at Gordon Drug, Worthington and First National Bank, Lakefield, retiring in1995. She was a member and held various offices in the Ladies' Aid at St. John's Lutheran of Okabena. She sang in the church choir for 40 years, taught Sunday school and release time, and volunteered at the Christian Day School. Alice enjoyed sewing and making quilts, crocheting, counted cross-stitch, baking, canning, gardening, reading and crossword puzzles, playing cards and having coffee with the "Tripoli girls." In 2010 they moved to Okabena. Kenneth died on February 9, 2012.

Surviving is one daughter, Kathleen & Wayne Murphy of Annandale, MN, two sons, Steve & Connie DeWall of Okabena and Tom & Jean DeWall of Zimmerman, MN, and daughter-in-law Cindy DeWall of Okabena. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth; an infant daughter, Susan Renee; son, Mark DeWall; her sister, Mildred Wrucke and brother, Clemens Ulbricht.
