Alvin Fredrick Mittelstadt, age 88, was the son of Christ and Louisa (Baumgard) Mittelstadt, born September 1, 1932, in Alba Township, Jackson County.
He was baptized on September 25, 1932, and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith on May 27, 1945, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Brewster, MN. He attended country school and Brewster School, graduating in the Brewster High School Class of 1949. After graduation, he started farming with his dad and worked at the Brewster Hardware store.
He was called to serve his country, in the US Army, from February 19, 1953, to February 18, 1955, during the Korean conflict.
Alvin married Arlene Richter on October 21, 1956, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Lakefield. They farmed in Alba Township and later, West Heron Lake Township, until they retired from farming in 1997. They moved to Windom in December of that year.
Alvin was a member of the Okabena Legion Post #608. Throughout the years, he held various offices at Our Redeemer Church and the Legion.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, wood crafting, traveling, and wintering in Arizona.
Alvin is survived by his loving family, including his son, Brad (Evon) Mittelstadt of Slayton, MN; daughter Lona (Dan) Rookaird of New Prague, MN; daughters-in-law, Sharon Mittelstadt of North Mankato, MN; Debby Mittelstadt of Lakeville, MN; nine grandchildren, Derek (Dawn) Mittelstadt, Dawn Erdmann, Sara (Curtis) Sell, Taylor (Dillan) Crawley, Kyle Rookaird, Nathan (Katie) Mittelstadt, Jessica (Eric) Stenzel, Lindsey (John) Larson, and Ryan (Amy) Mittelstadt; ten great grandchildren, Isaac, Luke, Mikaela, Cody, Brooke, Devin, Tanner, Libby, Lila and Colton.
Alvin is preceded in death by his loving wife, Arlene; two sons, Doug and Craig; his parents; and four sisters, Vera Bedard, Eleanor Markley, Lorena Hotzler and Arlene Post.
