A Mass of Christian Burial to honor the life and legacy of Alyce Resch, age 95, of Jackson, will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 14th, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jackson with Father Dharma officiating. The burial will be at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Jackson.

A time of visitation will be held on Friday, September 13th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Jackson. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 14th at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jackson.

Alyce Resch passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 4th at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield.

Alyce Marie Resch was born March 27, 1929, to John and Anna (Lev) Lusk in Jackson, Minnesota. Her appreciation of education began as a kindergarten student speaking only Bohemian in a country school near their farm. Following high school she spent two years in teachers training, taught two years in the historic Middletown Township eight-cornered country school, and enjoyed sharing her teaching experiences for 74 more years. At that time, married women were not allowed to be teachers, so she changed her focus to helping kids as a 4-H leader and religious education teacher. She was a life-long advocate for 4-H and FFA and especially enjoyed watching family members show their animals at the fairs.

Church was special for Alyce. As a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jackson, she served as the Community Affairs, Rural Life Chairman for the Catholic Diocese of Winona, earning the Bishop's Medal for outstanding achievement. She was also president of the Altar Society and the National Order of Foresters at Good Shepherd.

On June 21, 1950, Alyce married her partner for life, John Resch. They were farming partners for 68 years until his passing in 2018. Raising chickens, growing vegetables, flower gardening, and preparing food kept her busy most days. She loved to bake, freeze and can the bountiful produce her immense garden produced. She was proud of her Bohemian heritage and often made apple dumplings as a treat and kolaches for special celebrations. Nothing could beat her rhubarb custard pie.

With her first teaching paycheck, Alyce bought a Singer sewing machine. For over 70 years, Alyce and her machine sewed for family and church missions. Every year, her goal was to make 100 pairs of pants and shorts for underprivileged children. Over the years, she also made many, many quilts. Each grandchild received a car quilt when they got a driver's license, another on their wedding day and one for each great-grandchild to play on. She was also a speed embroiderer. She decorated enough dish towels last year to provide Christmas gifts to each of her Colonial Manor caregivers.

Engaging in conversation was one of Alyce's favorite things. She loved getting together with her birthday club and extension project groups. Whether you were at her house for a meeting, neighborhood gathering or just mowing the lawn, you were offered a cup of coffee and a cookie. She regularly made birthday and Christmas phone calls to stay in touch with family and friends.

Alyce is survived by her three sons, David (Mary) Resch of Glencoe, James (Brenda) Resch of Lakefield, and Thomas (Brenda) Resch of Windom; two daughters Jean (Kevin) Hintz of Northfield, and Patricia (Gregory) Schweitzer of Melbourne, FL; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Anne Liepold of Heron Lake; brother-in-law, Eugene Resch of Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.

Alyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; granddaughter, Jennifer Resch; brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Jane Lusk; sister-in-law, Ruth Resch; and brothers-in-law, Leo Resch and Marv Liepold.
