Amanda Minnie Elsing was born on April 3, 1907, to the late George and Ella (Brass) Elsing on a farm near Wilmont, Minnesota. She received her education in country school by horse and buggy and graduated in 1919.Amanda worked at home until her marriage. On February 22, 1928, Amanda was united in marriage to Joe Elsing in Wycliff, Kentucky. They made their home near Comfrey and farmed for eight years. They then moved to Windom and in 1948, they adopted three little girls from Minneapolis-Norma, Carol and DeAnna. In 1952, Amanda and Joe built a big red garage for their growing school bus business where they lived until their new home was built. Amanda was a wife and mother in her spare time and helped run a fleet of about 25 school buses. She wore many hats including personnel manager and accountant. They then sold the business and Joe returned to farming before retiring. Joe passed away on March 11, 1991. Amanda and Joe were married for sixty-three years. After his death, Amanda remained in Windom and had been recently living at Heritage House in Windom until being hospitalized at the Windom Area Hospital where she passed away peacefully, with her family at her bedside, on Thursday morning, July 19, 2007, at the wonderful age of 100! Amanda was a longtime, dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church in Windom. She will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and faithful servant. Amanda is survived by one daughter, DeAnna Bucher of Jeffers; 17 grandchildren; many, many, great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lillian Frey of Sibley, Iowa; Phyllis Rabenberg of Rushmore; Geraldine Wagner of Adrian; and several nieces and nephews. Amanda is preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Norma Porter and Carol Elsing; two brothers, John and Willie Elsing; three sisters, Minnie Ebeling, Jeanette Bunger and Ellene Funk.
