Anita Marie Hammero was born on December 11, 1916, in Germantown Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to the late Ernest G. and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Schultz. She received her education in District #35 in Cottonwood County.
On September 12, 1942, Anita was united in marriage to Oscar H. Hammero in Storden, Minnesota. After marriage, Anita and Oscar lived in various communities in Minnesota as Oscar continued his teaching career in public education. After Oscar's retirement, they moved to Jeffers, Minnesota. Oscar passed away on February 18, 1993. After his death, Anita then moved to Windom until becoming a resident of the Valley View Manor Nursing Home in Lamberton. She remained there until passing away on Friday, April 2, 2010, at the wonderful age of 93.
Anita was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom. She was a loving and dedicated wife who had many enjoyments in life which included gardening, bird watching, crocheting, knitting, baking and cribbage.
Grateful for having shared her life are her sister-in-law, Pat Soleta of Windom; nieces and nephews, Richard Hammero (Karen) of Cottage Grove; Stan Wendland (Jodi) of Windom; Keith Wendland (Debbie) of Lynchburg, VA; Kathy Morphew (Dan) of Windom; LaVonne Witt of Storden; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Anita is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Oscar Hammero; five brothers, Richard, Walter, John, August and George; three sisters, Wanda White, Esther Christenson and Marie Callanan.
