Obituary

Arthur Nestor Matasovsky, the son of Andrew S. and Mary (Wiezorek) Matasovsky was born September 25, 1926 in Minneota township, Jackson County, Minnesota. He attended country school in Minneota township, graduating from Lakefield High School in 1944. Following graduation he began his life-long career of farming. On October 30, 1949 Art married Shirley (Greenwood)Stough of Jackson at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hunter Township, Minnesota. From this union three children were born: John, Ardyce(Freking) and Harlan.

He was baptized and confirmed at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he remained a life-long member. Art was a Sunday School teacher, church janitor, held various church offices as well as being a 4-H leader.

Art loved to travel and visit his children and grandchildren. He belonged to the Jackson Barbershop Chorus and the church choir.

Arthur Matasovsky passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Sanford Medical Center in Jackson, MN.

Art is survived by his sons, John (Debra) Matasovsky of Truman, Minnesota; Harlan (Debra) Matasovsky of Storm Lake, Iowa; a son-in-law Mike Freking of Buffalo Lake, Minnesota; grandchildren: Kevin (Audrey) Matasovsky, Christopher (Emily) Matasovsky, Jenny Volkenant, Eric (Beatriz) Freking, Dan Freking, Kim (Mike) Haluska, Kristin (Derek) Benson, Tim (McKenzie) Matasovsky, Katie (John) Rogeles, Ryan (Shannon) Matasovsky and eighteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister Gladys (Rev. David) Schmidt of Ballwin, Missouri as well as many nieces and nephews.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Ardyce, his brothers Milton Matasovsky, Donald Matasovsky and his sister Ruth Matasovsky.

A Celebration of Life Service for Arthur "Art" Matasovsky, age 97, of Lakefield, will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hunter Township with Pastor Dale Hedstrom officiating. Burial will follow the service at Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Minneota Township.

A time of visitation and gathering will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
