A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Avis Anderson, age 92, of Lakefield, MN, will be held Friday, September 6th at 2:00 p.m., with a time of visitation and gathering for one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield with Pastor Andrew Schensted officiating. Burial will be at Lakefield City Cemetery in Lakefield, MN.

Avis Evelyn Anderson was born on August 31, 1932, to Albin A. and Anna (Sandberg) Anderson in Lakefield, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lakefield. Avis attended District 65 country school in Hunter Township, Jackson County, Minnesota, through 8th grade and then graduated from Jackson High School in 1950. She lived in her home in Lakefield until June 2016 then she became a resident at the Colonial Manor in Lakefield.

Avis enjoyed traveling and taking road trips throughout the United States with her aunt Clara and sister Josephine. She took peaceful pleasure in gardening and watching and feeding the birds. She enjoyed listening to polka music on the radio while working in her kitchen. She loved and spoiled her cats, Nicky Roo, Snoops, Blackie and Morris. She was always willing to take in a stray or lost cat. Avis always loved a good conversation and keeping in touch with family and friends on her landline. She was always willing and on call to help look after her nieces and nephews and their families.

Avis Anderson passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield at the age of 92.

Avis is survived by her sister, Margaret Walker of Owatonna, MN, two brothers, Richard (Linda) Anderson of Spirit Lake, IA, John (Mary) Anderson of Burnsville, MN, as well as her nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Evelyn Anderson Carton; three brothers, infant brother, Cyril Anderson, Stanley Anderson, and Carl Anderson; sister, Josephine Anderson; brother-in-law, Jerry Walker; and sister-in-law, Nora Anderson.
