Obituary

Barbara "Barb" Ann Schmidt was born on December 20, 1948, in Windom, Minnesota to the late Robert and Ann Schmidt. Barb was baptized and confirmed at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom. She attended Windom Area Public School and graduated with the class of 1967. On April 25, 1969, Barb was united in marriage to Kenneth Hunter, Jr., at the First United Methodist Church in Windom. They made their home in Wilder where they would remain throughout their entire 50-year marriage. Barb was the mother of two sons, Kraig and Kevin. Barb remained in Wilder after Kenny's passing at the family home. Barb was a stay-at-home mom in her sons' younger years but entered the workforce when they started school. She worked at Fingerhut in Windom and Sperry-Univac in Jackson, before deciding to pursue a degree in Dietary Management. Once college was complete, Barb worked at the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial centers in Jackson and Windom as a cook and later Dietary Manager. Barb ended her career by retiring as the Dietary Manager of the Windom Area Hospital. Barb loved cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family. Barb was best known for her cooking and baking skills – breads, chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls, every family gathering was filled with wonderful smells and meals from her kitchen. Barb had a passion for bird watching, especially cardinals, which were found in decorations throughout her home. She enjoyed playing cards and board games with her grandchildren. Barb passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Society Sogge Memorial on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at the age of 72 years. Barb is survived by her two sons, Kraig (Pam) Hunter of Mount Vernon, IA, and Kevin Hunter of Wilder; daughter-in-law, Karlene of Windom; daughter-in-law, Shay of Maryville, TN; seven grandchildren, Joe, Jake, Kennedy, Kendra, Kaycee, Tatum, and Levi; brother, Larry Schmidt of Mazeppa, MN; sisters-in-law, Marge (Mike) Eichner of Windom; sister-in-law, Sandra (Gordy) Hunter-Snow of Windom; nieces and nephews, Loni, Travis, Autumn, Dustin, and Roland and other relatives.
