Obituary

Benjamin John Olson of Greeley, Colorado formerly of Windom, MN was born September 23, 1980 to Donavan and the late Sharon Olson in Windom, MN at the Windom Area Hospital. Ben was baptized and later confirmed at the First United Methodist Church in Windom. Ben graduated from Windom Area High School in 1999. He then continued his education at University of North Dakota (UND) where he graduated with a degree in Business Management. Ben played football at UND, reaching the national championship game twice with his team, and was selected as an All American his senior year, and inducted into the UND hall of fame with his 2001 National Championship team. He then went to the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL, played arena football for the Sioux Falls Storm, Billings Outlaws, and Everett Hawks. He was a graduate assistant football coach at UND for 2 years, an assistant coach at MN State University Moorhead, Moorhead, MN, and Jamestown College, Jamestown, ND. He then left coaching to join his family business, Fortune Transportation; he became an owner in 2016. Ben was joined in marriage to Susan Kolbow on June 15, 2013. Ben and Sue lived in Jamestown, ND and Greeley, CO. In the ten years they were together, Ben was a kind, caring soulmate who treated the love of his life with compassion, kindness and respect. They were a great team who made decisions together, laughed, played and conquered the world. As Sue moves forward, her world will always be brighter because of the love and the light that Ben gave her. Ben enjoyed playing football, hockey, and golfing. He liked to hunt deer and elk with his family. One of his favorite parts of living in Colorado was the access to snowboarding every weekend! He enjoyed going to concerts and various sporting events with Sue and friends. Ben is survived by his wife, Sue Olson, his father and Step-mom, Don (Gail) Olson, his brother, Perry (Sandy) Olson, sister, Dana (Le) Krumrey, Grandma Erma Maxine Walters, Mother and father in-law, Randy and Candy Kolbow, Grandma Johanna Weeks, Grandpa Ron (Mary) Kolbow, sister Melissa (Mitch) Marr and brother Andrew, Step-Sisters Alison (Trent) Kral, Emily (Jason) Quinn, Amber (Doug) Castle, nephews Eli, Ike (Megan), Grant, and nieces , Taylor (Nathan), Kaitie (Nathan), Sami, Emma, Zoe, Gracie and Charlotte Ben is preceded in death by his Mother, Sharon Olson, Grandparents Cecil Walters and Jeff and Marion Olson. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to UND Foundation.
