Bernice Ann Ryker, the sixth of eleven children, was born on October 2, 1934, on the farm home in Amboy Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to the late Tebbo and Jeannette (Finger) Prins. She was baptized as an infant at the Jeffers United Methodist Church and later confirmed in that same church. Bernice received her education in the Jeffers Public Schools; graduating in the Class of 1952. On March 22, 1952, Bernice was united in marriage to Lawrence "Jack" Jackson Ryker at the Jeffers United Methodist Church. This marriage was blessed with four children, Cathy, Pamela, Steven and Lee. After marriage Bernice and Jack started farming outside of Jeffers. Bernice retired from helping on the farm at 70 years old. Through the years, Bernice also worked in Jeffers at the Ambulatory Care Center for many years and volunteered at the Swan Lake Day Activity Center in Delft, Minnesota. Bernice was a lifetime member of the Jeffers United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, MYF leader, attended UMC conferences for four years, a member of the Ruth Circle UMW and always willing to help out in the kitchen at church functions. She will be remembered for being a loving and wonderful wife, mother, and grandma along with her delicious chocolate chip cookies at coffee time and her raspberry dessert. God, church and her family were everything to her. On Friday, May 31, 2019, Bernice passed away at her home in rural Jeffers at the age of 84 years. She was lovingly cared for by her husband for many years. Bernice is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years, Lawrence "Jack" Ryker of Jeffers; four children, Cathy (Tim) Carlblom of Jeffers; Pamela (Lynden) Carter of Motley; Steven (Cindy) Ryker of Jeffers; Lee (LuAnn) Ryker of Jeffers; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, Diane (Jay) Ahrenholz and children, Brooke and Ryker of Anchorage, AK; Christina (Mark Chamley) Carlblom of Belgrade, MT; Chandra (Judd Brink) Carter of Baxter; Amanda (Pete Cote) Carter and son, Isaac of Motley; Joshua (Nikki Jasmer) Carter and children, Logan and Riley of Staples; Sonja (Brent) Piotter and children, Jada Hill, Cayson Hill and Easton of Jeffers; Sheila Ryker and son, Tavion of Jeffers; Elizabeth (Ryan Harder) Ryker and daughter, Madelyn of Jeffers; Amy Ryker and children, Hunter and RyAnn of Sioux Falls, SD; Tessa (Zach Whitney) Ryker of Sioux Falls, SD; KayLee (Joe Brandl) Ryker of Clinton, WI; brothers and sister, Norm (Ruth) Prins of Mankato; Kenneth (Shirley) Prins of Jeffers; Janet Prins of Jeffers; Richard Prins of Roseville; sister-in-law, Marjorie Prins of Storden; brother-in-law, David Vining of Hermosa, SD; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Bernice is preceded in death by her parents; infant great-grandson, Jackson Harder; half-brother, Clyde (Bonnie) Prins; two brothers, Robert Prins; Marvin (Mary Lou) Prins; sisters, LaDonna (Myron) Eucken, Beatrice Vining; and Arlene (Arlen) Meyer.
