Bernard "Bernie" Armstrong was born on December 8, 1942 to the late Wayne and Cecile (Henton) Armstrong. Bernie graduated from Truman high school in 1960 and started college soon after in St. Paul, Minnesota at Lee's Barber College. Bernie started his barber career in Truman, then Fairmont, and finally in Windom for Tony Gunther. After five years, he bought out Tony and started "Bernie's Barbershop". Bernie was blessed with 58 years of pursuing his passion. After his retirement, for five years, Bernie would open his barbershop after returning from Arizona. Bernie was united in marriage to Gwen Berhow on November 24, 1961, at the Lutheran Church in Truman. Bernie and Gwen were blessed with two sons, Trent (Mallory) Armstrong, and Todd (Kim) Armstrong; six grandchildren, Lauren, Rachel, Kaley, Matt, Noah, Isaac; and two great grandchildren, Brook and Wyatt. Bernie was a longtime member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom. He was a loving husband, caring father, and a wonderful grandpa. Bernie was a loyal member of the Windom Country Club and was the president three times, a member of the Jaycees, and on the Windom City Council in the 1970's. Along with being an active member in his community, Bernie enjoyed fishing trips, duck and pheasant hunting, golfing, and wintering in Arizona with his wife, Gwen. Bernie will be remembered for being a good joke teller, but always forgot the punchline. Bernie passed away on August 30, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society in Windom, surrounded by his family. Bernie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gwen; sons, Trent (Mallory) Armstrong of Phoenix, AZ; Todd (Kim) Armstrong of Windom, MN; six grandchildren, Lauren, Rachel, Kaley, Matt, Noah, Isaac; two great grandchildren, Brooks and Wyatt; brother, Larry (Elaine) Armstrong of Truman, MN and several nieces and nephews. Bernie is preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Cecile (Henton) Armstrong. Blessed be the memory of Bernard "Bernie" Armstrong.

The Armstrong family prefers memorials be made to the American Cancer Society in Bernie's honor, in lieu of flowers.
