A Mass of Christian Burial for Betty A. McBride, age 82, of Jackson, formerly of Sioux Valley, will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 17th, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jackson. Burial will be at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Minneota Township in Jackson County.

A time of visitation will take place on Friday, January 17th at the Good Shepard Catholic Church for one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM

Betty McBride passed away on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Elizabeth Ann (Betty) McBride was born July 2, 1942, in Lakefield, MN to Peter and Frances (Fijalek) Dunai. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. She received her education and graduated from Sioux Valley public high school, graduating in the class of 1962. After her education, she continued to help on the family farm until her marriage to Donald J. McBride on July 7, 1979, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lakefield. The couple made their home in Sioux Valley for many years, until they moved to the Jackson Pines on December 1, 2012. Betty continued to live in the Pines up until her passing.

Betty was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lakefield. She could be found helping with many church activities like Ladies Aid. Her faith was of great importance to her. Betty attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Catholic Church for many years. When she couldn't attend those churches, she was sure to attend whatever church she could get to.

Betty was a shy and quiet woman who was loved by everyone she met. Even though she was quiet, you knew she was there when you heard that special "giggle", and saw the twinkle in her eyes. That twinkle in her eyes could also be credited to her husband, Don. Many have said those two made a great couple. They loved to travel, whether it be just themselves or part of a bus tour with others. The thing they really enjoyed doing was dancing. Anywhere that had music, especially old-time polka, you'd find them on the dance floor. Special places for them would be the Log Cabin Steak House in Sioux Valley and Heritage Fest in New Ulm.

Betty was always up for anything. If someone said, "Let's do this or go here or there", she'd get her coat and purse and be ready to go. She was always thankful for everything. If you had her over for a meal, she'd call you the next day to say thank you for the nice meal and nice time. Let's not forget all the cards she sent to everyone. Betty liked to keep in touch with everyone that was important to her.

Betty was always willing to help wherever she could. It started on the family farm with her helping get food ready for the family meals to helping Don with custodial work at Sioux Valley School. She would help anyone that was in need.

The most important thing to Betty was her family. She had a strong connection with all her family, especially her brothers, Vernon, Joseph and George. Special note… Betty is the last of the 12 McBride aunts and uncles.

Left to cherish Betty's everlasting memory is her brother, George Dunai and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Don; siblings, Blanche Christiansen, Walter Dunai, Verna Sanders, Frank Dunai, Helen Kolander, Edward Dunai, Donald Dunai, Evelyn Keller Knorr, Joseph Dunai, Bernice Fasel, Loraine Adeline Dagel, Irene Gehrls Bartosh, Mary Sjodahl, and Vernon Dunai.
