A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Betty Twait, age 91, of Windom, will be held Saturday, May 17th at 2:00 PM at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.

A visitation for Betty will be held Friday, May 16th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom. Visitation will continue Saturday at the American Lutheran Church in Windom for one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM.  The service will be live streamed on the American Lutheran Church Facebook page.

Betty Lou (Konrad) Twait was born on January 1, 1934, to the late Frank and Esther (Goodwin) Konrad in Stephan, South Dakota. She was baptized in Stephan and later confirmed at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. She attended grade school at the Red, White and Blue School House in Springfield Township, Cottonwood County, and later attended Windom High School. Betty continued her education at St. Cloud State Teachers College.

On December 5, 1953, Betty was united in marriage to Kermit Twait. The union was blessed with six children, Gary, Cindi, Dan, Brenda, Sandi and Peggy, as well as ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Betty loved to spoil the grandchildren and enjoyed every opportunity to help and care for them while their parents were busy. In the early years of their marriage, Betty and Kermit explored opportunities, while briefly living in Redwood Falls, Minneapolis, Windom and St. Peter, before settling down in Windom. Betty was employed with the Cottonwood County Assessor's Office and worked as the Deputy County Assessor for 35 years, retiring in 1997. In her early years, she worked for a short time as a cashier at Montgomery Wards in Redwood Falls, as a bookkeeper at Silliman Ford and the Sogge Home in Windom, but she truly found her calling working at the Cottonwood County Assessor's Office.

Betty was active in her church and community and volunteered on the funeral committee, Ladies Aide, Circle, the Bell Choir, and she and Kermit delivered "home communion" to the homebound. She offered her time and talents as a Sunday School teacher and worked as the church secretary. Betty was a Cub Scouts Den Mother for many years, she served Meals on Wheels, welcomed new residents of the community through the Windom Welcome Wagon, and was a charter member of the Racquetball Club.

Betty was blessed with the skills to sew, knit, crochet and quilt. She loved square dancing and was a member of the Frontier Twirlers. She organized critical club activities and was active not only regionally but at the state level. Betty was the Frontier Twirlers Minnesota State President and served as the Education Chair for the 2002 National Square Dance Convention in Minneapolis.

On May 2, 2025, Betty Twait passed away peacefully at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Left to cherish her memory, are her husband of 72 years, Kermit Twait of Windom; children, Cindi (Dean) Bramstedt of Sartell, MN, Dan Twait of Naples, FL, Brenda (Mike) Spielman of Sauk Rapids, MN, Sandi (Dave) Roberts of Wasilla, AK, and Peggy (Troy) Manning of River Falls, WI; ten grandchildren, Jessee Bramstedt, Kelsey Twait, Katherine Twait, Adam Spielman, Abby Yozamp, Cassie Marshall, Kayla Mitchell, Jackie Carlstrom, Jeremy Irwin, and Mikayla Manning; nine great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her son, Gary Twait; parents, Frank and Esther Konrad; brother, Bill (Sharon) Konrad; sister, Ruth (Jim) Woodall; daughter-in-law, Melissa Twait; parents-in-law, Roy and Ruth Twait; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Ray) Maras, Norma (Gene) Schmaltz, and Leona (Art) Nelson.
