Beverly Jean Bolstad was born November 25, 1951 in Windom, Minnesota to Alfred Earl and Jean Carrie (Korfe) Bolstad. She was a graduate of Windom Area High School in 1969 and Evangel College in Springfield, Missouri in 1973 with an elementary education major. When Bev was a young teenager, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at Lake Geneva Bible Camp in Alexandria, Minnesota. She served her Lord as a Sunday school teacher, children's church director and pianist. During the summer months, she worked for Citizen Publishing and Mountain Lake Observer as a typesetter, columnist and guest writer. Upon completion of college, she taught at St. Josephs Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota for several years. During summer break she enjoyed giving guided tours to Mount Rushmore and surrounding areas where she loved that part of the state enough to relocate to Rapid City. While there, she was employed by Airport Limousine, Insty Prints and Bargain Printing. During her "off" hours and weekends she continued giving guided tours of the Black Hills because she loved meeting people from around the world and sharing "her hills" with them. During winter months, she used her musical skills with the choir of St. John the Baptist Church in Custer, South Dakota by playing piano and keyboard. Bev passed away suddenly at the age of 64 on Wednesday evening, June 22, 2016 at Mount Rushmore National Park. She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Bolstad; brother-in-law, Marvin Gerdes; and a great-niece, Lindsey Jo Gerdes. She is survived by her mother, Jean Bolstad of Windom; sister, Yvonne Gerdes of Mountain Lake; nephews, Scott (Becky) Gerdes of Rochester, Jon (Heather) Gerdes of Mountain Lake, Paul (Kara) Gerdes of Alexandria, James (Susan) Gerdes of Hartford, SD; great-nephews and nieces, Nathan, Matthew, Grace, Alex, Mark, Tenley, Emma and Lilly Gerdes; and other relatives and friends. Bev was deeply loved by her family and many friends.
