A time of visitation and gathering will be held on Friday, December 1st from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the American Lutheran Church in Windom.

Beverly Jean Phillips was born on June 12, 1948, to the late Willie H. and Charlotte (Miller-Smith) Phillips, in Britt, Iowa. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Windom. She attended high school in Revillo, South Dakota. After graduating high school, she moved to the Twin Cities and was a flight attendant for a period of time.

In February 1968, she welcomed her son, Richard, into the world. He was handicapped with Down Syndrome and her family was there to support and help her as a single mother. In January of 1972, her daughter, Jennifer came along. Again, her family was there to support her on this journey with two children. She married on January 3, 1976, and welcomed Jesse, her youngest daughter.

In the early 1980's Bev earned an associate degree from Riverland Community College in Austin, Minnesota. She played bass guitar in the band that she and her husband had for a while. In 1984, this stopped, and she worked as a secretary for a few years.

In 1990, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and by 1995 she was completely wheelchair bound. Beverly's children and grandchildren cared for her at her home to ensure she would always have her family by her side. Bev lived with Jennifer and her family, until she passed away. She loved gardening, quilting, crafting, and sewing, until her motor skills did not work right.

Bev's favorite love was having her family around. She loved having the grandchildren and great-grandchildren with her and letting them take her for "rides" on her bed, elevating it up and down. She loved playing games on her Tablet and said it was her lifeline to keep her busy. She accidentally taught some of the grandchildren their first words; Angelica's first words were "damn flies". The grandkids also got some floor playtime, when Bev's self-transfer to the wheelchair didn't go as planned, and she ended up on the floor playing with the kids. She always enjoyed phone visits with her nieces, Tammy and Nancy.

On November 24, 2023, Bev passed away surrounded by her loving family.

Left to cherish Beverly's memory are her children, Jennifer Nauman, Jesse Schwering, and Valorie (Tom) McMahon; eight grandchildren, Aaden, Jonah, Charlotte, Aaron (Selena), Angelica (Cody), Alex, Gabregail (Dan), and Anastasia (Steven); eleven great-grandchildren, Molly, Evelyn, Aaron Jr., Hazel, Remington, Daniela, Aspen, Charlotte, Bobbie, Caseton and Corbin; and many relatives and friends.

Bev was preceded in death by her son, Richard "Smiley Grump" Phillips; parents, Willie H & Charlotte Phillips; one brother, Willie J. Phillips; one sister, Barbara Cromwell; and one nephew, Gary J. Phillips.

Blessed be the memory of Beverly Jean Phillips.
