Obituary

Brian Robert Spencer was born on June 16, 1954, in Blue Earth, Minnesota to Robert M. and Mary Jean (Skarin) Spencer. He received his education in the Blue Earth Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1972. In 1980, Brian moved to Windom and on June 26, 1981, Brian was united in marriage to Patricia Follen in Blue Earth. They lived in Windom for their entire marriage. Brian worked as Assistant Manager at Pamida for several years, at Hy Vee as Dairy Manager for many years, followed by three years at Agco in Jackson until his retirement on January 12, 2018. On January 24, 2018, Brian accepted a part-time job as a bus driver at the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom. He loved driving the residents to their various appointments, even the cranky ones! Brian passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning at Windom Area Health at the age of 65. "He's Crazy! It will never last!" That is what many people said when Brian married an "older" woman with five kids. In true Brian fashion, he proved the naysayers wrong. He accepted all five kids as his own and raised them with the love only a father can have. It wasn't always easy with Brian, a lifelong Packers fan, marrying into a family of Vikings fans, but he was a pretty good sport about it and usually came out on top. We all feel blessed to have had him as our Dad. Brian also is remembered as a loving, caring, patient and involved "Gramps". He treated Pat like a queen every day of their nearly forty-year marriage and showed us all how to be a great husband, father, and grandpa. Brian was a longtime, dedicated member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom where he assisted with Mass preparations Brian is survived by his wife, Patricia Spencer of Windom; five children - Deb (Mike) Grote of Madelia, Laurie (Mike) Redmond of Windom, Tony (Holly) Schmit of Lakefield, Terry Schmit of Windom, and Chris (Jessica) Schmit of New Ulm; mother, Mary Jean Spencer of Spicer; eight grandchildren; one great grandson; sister, Lori (Phil) Bahr of New London; and many nieces and nephews. Brian is preceded in death by his father, Robert Spencer and sister, Marsha Martin. Thank you, God, for blessing our family with your very best!!
