C. Robert (Rob) Ginsburg, Jr. passed peacefully in his sleep Sunday evening, April 23, 2023, at the age of 96 years and 5 months after a short stay at New Perspective Senior Living in Mankato, Minnesota. He is finally free from his dementia limitations of the past two years and home with his Savior, Jesus Christ, whom he had chosen to follow as a young boy.

Born November 21, 1926, to Charles Robert and Myrtle (Schreffler) Ginsburg, Rob grew up in Philadelphia and later attended Penn State University, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Moving to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1956, he devoted his 30-year career to the corporation that is now known as Unisys, retiring in 1985.

He served our country as an MP in the Philippines, during the later years of WWII. He would tearfully recount stories of the hungry children on the island he would push food to through the Army encampment fence while on patrol, though it "wasn't allowed." On the other hand, he would cheerfully share the story of hitchhiking to town on leave from the base one day when he stuck out his thumb as a convoy of official vehicles approached. He didn't get a ride, but he got a standing salute from General Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Upon discharge from the Army, Rob went home to Philadelphia where he met the first love of his life, Dorothy "Dotty" O'Connor, whom he married August 19, 1950. To that 52-year union, two sons and a daughter were born: Charles Robert III, Joyce Anne, and Stephen Bruce.

A brilliant, fix-anything kind of man, he also was fond of the great outdoors. He spent much of his life involved in the Boy Scouts of America, first as a scout in Pennsylvania and later as Scout Master of Troop 262 based in St. Paul, MN, where he received the coveted Silver Beaver Award for his work with young men. He loved camping, hiking, canoeing and could even bake a cake over an open fire.

He played the piano and enjoyed classical music, memorizing several compositions he could still play sections of at age 96. As a college student, he sang in and arranged vocal music for a men's gospel quartet.

He loved birdwatching and became a bit of an expert alongside Dotty, taking many a family tent-camping vacation all over the USA in hopes of seeing specific birds. He later would refer to them as "the sweetest creatures God ever made." During those trips he honed his photography skills, developing and printing pictures in his basement darkroom in his retirement years.

Rob was very lucky in love, as after Dotty passed away in 2002, he became reacquainted and fell madly in love with his high school sweetheart, Mary (Wolfenden) Talley. The two of them wed in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, on August 14, 2004, and enjoyed 18 years together spending six months of each year in each other's Eagan, MN and King of Prussia, PA homes until the last few years.

An intimate family burial service will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 10:00am.

Rob is survived by his wife, Mary Talley Ginsburg; son, Chuck (Ellen Temby) Ginsburg; daughter, Joyce (Greg) Madson; daughter-in-law, Erin Lamon; grandchildren, Jasmine Madson, Jordan Madson, Marcus (Holly) Madson, Chanel (Tyler) Schmidt, M. Hunter Ginsburg, Ronin Lamon-Ginsburg, and Dillan Lamon-Ginsburg; great grandchildren, Evelyn Madson, Eloise Madson and Griffin Schmidt; Mary's daughters, Lois (Frank) Carriola, Patt (John) Spillane and Shelley (Mike) Cahill, and their families. He was preceded in death by first wife, Dotty; son, Stephen; and sister, Charlotte Schmidt.
