Obituary

Carl Arthur Jass, "Charlie" was born on February 9, 1937 to Esther (Freitag) and Carl O. Jass in Mt. Lake, MN. Charlie was raised on a farm west of Mt. Lake, MN along with his four sisters and four brothers. He was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Lake, MN. Charlie attended Country School at District 66 and then transferred to Mt. Lake Public School. He participated in FFA, Football, and Golden Gloves Boxing and helped out on the family farm. On June 20, 1956, Charlie married Phyllis Lange at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom, MN. They made their home in Windom, MN. They became the proud parents of four daughters. Charlie was the seed manager at the Windom Co-Op Elevator for 45 years. He retired on March 1, 2002. Even though Charlie retired, he continued to work part-time for the Co-Op Elevator for four more years. Charlie's wife, Phyllis, passed away on January 25, 1970. Charlie married Sydney Olson on August 7, 1970 at the United Methodist Church in Windom, MN. They were blessed with two sons. This marriage was later dissolved. During his lifetime, Charlie enjoyed motorcycling and snowmobiling with family and friends. He loved spending time at his cabin on Long Lake south of St. James with his family boating, jet skiing, and water skiing. Other interests he had were vehicles and anything with a motor. He was very proud of his mechanical abilities. Charlie also took pleasure in visiting with people. For the past 10 years Charlie's son, Vince, lived with him. They really enjoyed each other's company and shared the same interests. One of their greatest pleasures was taking daily road trips together. Vince provided wonderful care for Charlie in his later years. Your family thanks you, Vince. Faith, family, and friends were very important to Charlie. He found great joy in his six children, 20 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Charlie passed away peacefully on May 9, 2019 at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN with his family at his side. He was 82 years old.
