Carl
Larson
May 21, 1933 — Apr 2, 2026
Saturday
An Open House Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Carl Larson, age 92, of Sherburn, formerly of Jackson, will be held Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 3 to 6 PM at the American Legion Hall in Jackson. A Private Family Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Jackson.
Carl E. Larson passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, at Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn, Minnesota.
Carl was born on May 21, 1933, in Jackson, Minnesota, to Mary and Ernest Larson. He grew up on a family farm north of Jackson and carried with him throughout his life a strong work ethic and a desire to help his family, neighbors, and friends.
After graduating from Jackson High School, he proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he attended barber school and worked as a barber in Minneapolis and later at a barbershop on Main Street in Jackson, where he was known for his skill, easy conversation, and warm spirit. In 1967, Carl returned to his roots on the family farm, where he dedicated many years to farming and gardening.
On August 25, 1963, Carl married fellow Jackson native Lillian (Johanek) Johnson. Together, they shared 62 years of devoted and joyful marriage. Soon after their marriage, Carl and Lillian welcomed their son Brent, who joined Lillian’s two sons, Rodney and Michael Johnson, in the family.
Farming corn and soybeans and raising pigs kept Carl busy, while he also enjoyed helping Lillian in her large garden plots. In addition to farming, he served his community as Secretary of the Jackson Farmers Coop and Treasurer of Enterprise Township.
Even after attempting retirement and reluctantly stepping away from his beloved John Deere equipment, Carl remained active—gardening, tinkering, and always ready to lend a hand to fellow farmers and friends. In 2010, Carl and Lillian moved from their family farm to a home in Jackson near Jackson County Central High School, where they continued to enjoy their community and time together.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lillian; sons Brent (Jennifer) Larson and Michael (Mary) Johnson; daughter-in-law Cathy van der Berg; and grandchildren Jessica (Brad) Harder, Kate Larson, and Emma (Larson) Haskell (Thomas); sister Frances Seemann (Gay), brother Duane Larson (Laurie), sister-in-law Janice Larson and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Johnson; his parents, Mary and Ernest Larson; sisters Lillian Kalash (Dean), Mary Anderson (Curt); brothers Arthur Larson (Carol) and Edward Larson.
Carl’s life was one of quiet strength, a strong work ethic, and enduring optimism. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
