A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Carol Koens, age 87, of Windom, will be held Tuesday, December 10th at 11:00 a.m., with a time of visitation and gathering for Carol from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in rural Windom.

Carol Koens passed away on Thursday, December 5th at Windom Area Health in Windom, Minnesota.

Carol Ann Koens was born on December 18, 1936 in Lennox, South Dakota to Carl and Emily Poppenga. On June 16, 1956, Carol married George Koens. The couple began their life together in Adrian, Minnesota. Soon after, they moved to Windom, Minnesota, where they lived with their three children, Dawn, Nancy, and Larry, in the house George and Carol helped build.

Carol served as both a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and was an active member of local bowling leagues. She also had a passion for gardening. A talented artist, Carol was known for her intricate ceramic decorations and beautifully crafted birthday cakes she lovingly made for her family. Throughout her life, Carol had a love for animals and shared her home with many pets, including her two beloved kitties, Coco and Josie.

Carol will be remembered for her tireless work ethic, selfless nature, and the love and fun she brought to those around her.

Carol is survived by her children, Dawn Elg (Kevin) of Mankato, Nancy Snyder of Windom, and Larry Koens (Leah) of Mankato; grandchildren Trever Elg (Danielle) of Wells, Kelsey Snyder of Minneapolis, Melissa Elg of Mankato, Sara Snyder of Minneapolis, Chloe Koens of Mankato, and Ava Koens of Mankato; and great-grandchildren, Zoey Elg and Kimber Elg of Wells.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, George, and many loved ones who now welcome her into eternal peace.
