Caroline Ruth Johnson, the daughter of the late Fred and Elsie (Stenke) Oeltjenbruns was born on January 21, 1927 at home in Carson Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota (near Mountain Lake). She was baptized on March 6, 1927. On April 6, 1941, she was confirmed in her faith at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Lake. She received her education at District 80E near her family's home and later attended Mt. Lake High School.
On February 3, 1948, Caroline was united in marriage to Lawrence W. Johnson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Lake. They began farming near Odin and later moved to a farm north of Mt. Lake. In 1963, they bought their farm near Bergen, retiring from farming on November 13, 1988. Upon retirement, they bought a home and moved to Windom. They also enjoyed ten winters in Mesa, Arizona. On March 16, 2002, Lawrence passed away.
In May of 2019, Caroline moved to Bethany Home in Brandon, South Dakota where she remained a resident until passing away there on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at the age of 92 years, 7 months.
Caroline was a current member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Lake in her earlier years. While a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she was a member of the Altar Guild and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. As a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School along with being a member of the Ladies Aid, Circle and the Golden Age. Caroline also volunteered for Adult Basic Education and worked at the Pine Inn in Windom for a short time. She had many enjoyments in life which included flower gardening, hand work, playing cards, scrabble, cooking, baking, reading and working many different puzzles.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two children, Shirley (James) Dunlap of Renner, SD; Steven (Jean) Johnson of Windom; six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Dick of Huron, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
Caroline is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; one brother, Raymond (Verna) Oeltjenbruns; and one brother-in-law, Harvey Dick.
