Obituary

Charles "Bud" Dewey Gove, the fifth child of the late Russell Dewey and Helen Fern (Wright) Gove was born on April 30, 1935 in Windom, Minnesota. He was baptized at the First United Methodist Church in Windom on October 4, 1942. Bud received his education in the Windom Public Schools; graduating in the Class of 1954. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1959. On December 15, 1963, Bud was united in marriage to Janice Elaine Mitchell. After marriage, Bud and Jan made Windom their lifetime home. In 1977, Bud and Jan adopted their daughter April, at the age of 4 days old. Through the years, Bud drove truck, raised cattle and hogs, and did custom swathing and chopping along with farming and selling seed. He also sold CB radios and FM radios along with telephone systems. Bud did it all! Bud was so proud to be an unofficial century farm which was purchased in 1913 by Charles W. Gove. He also was very proud to have helped put "Lady of Justice" back on top of the Cottonwood County Courthouse. Bud was a member of the Lakeview Cemetery Board in Windom for many years. He also had many enjoyments in life which included, coffee at many local spots, most recently at Hardee's-it was his "home away from home", attending the Evangelical Free Church in Windom and most of all, spending time with his family, especially his 4 grandchildren. On October 10, 2011, Bud had heart surgery and had many more years of living. Recently, Bud became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom where he passed away on Saturday morning, March 7, 2020 at the age of 84 years. Bud is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Jan Gove of Windom; daughter, April (Justin) Harrington of Windom; four grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie Meyer of Windom; Margaret Bryant of Perryton, TX; sister-in-law, Jo Strenge of Spirit Lake, IA; cousin, John Gove of Florida; 4 nieces and 6 nephews. Bud is preceded in death by his parents-55 years to the day of his mother's death on March 7, 1965; infant brother, Robert Gove; and two sisters, Dorothy Bressler and Ruth Perrance. Blessed be the memory of Bud Gove.
