Obituary

Clarence Farrelly Madsen was born November 3, 1935, to Edwin and Marie (Sheridan) Madsen in Havelock, Iowa. At an early age, Clarence was baptized and confirmed in Sioux Rapids, IA. Clarence grew up in Rembrandt, Iowa, where he attended and graduated from Rembrandt Consolidated School. Clarence moved to Heron Lake in 1954. He was then drafted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.

On October 11, 1958, Clarence was united in marriage to Marie Rasche. The marriage was blessed with six children, Chris, Doug, Linda, Gary, Greg and Darian. Clarence farmed all his life, raised hogs and grew corn and soybeans. He was known for his sense of humor, quick wit and charm. He was always ready with a joke and made everyone around him laugh and smile.

Clarence was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lakefield and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the St. Joseph's Parish Council, Ag Center Board, Okabena School Board, Okabena Elevator Board and was a Pork Producer. Clarence loved fishing, golf and traveling. Clarence and Marie enjoyed many winters in Thousand Palms, California.

Since April 2017, Clarence had been a resident of Adrian Country Living Cottages in the memory care unit, where the staff graciously cared for him with love and kindness. On August 29, 2022, Clarence was received into the hands of the Lord.

Left to cherish Clarence's memory are his wife of 63 years, Marie Madsen of Okabena; children, Chris (Michael) Grover of Oconomowoc, WI, Doug (Konnie) Madsen of Okabena, Linda (Rick) Sczublewski of Pierz, MN, Gary (Jody) Madsen of Okabena, Greg (Toni Baartman) Madsen of Worthington, and Darian (Lana Rogers) Madsen of Otsego, MN; 16 grandchildren; 9 great step grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Sandy) Madsen; three sisters-in-law, Margie Madsen, Bonnie Madsen and Eunice Madsen; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Merle Madsen, Edwin Madsen Jr., Dale Madsen, Jerry Madsen, Duane (Joan) Madsen; Melvin (Phyllis) Madsen, two sisters, Maxine (Lee) Launderville and Jean Madsen; and one sister-in-law, Arlene (Henry) Ivers.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Clarence Madsen, age 86, of Okabena, will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 3rd, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lakefield, MN with Father Dale Launderville officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Lakefield, MN with full military honors provided by the Sievert-Peterson American Legion Post #608 of Okabena. A time of visitation and gathering will be held on Friday, September 2nd from 4:00-7:00 PM at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lakefield. Visitation will continue at the church for one-hour prior to the funeral Mass on Saturday, September 3rd from 9:30-10:30 AM. Clarence Madsen passed away on Monday, August 29th at the Adrian Country Living Cottages in Adrian, MN.
