Dale Albert Eigenberg was born February 20, 1938 in Heron Lake, Minnesota. He was the youngest of the family of Henry and Lilly (nee Hensel) Eigenberg. Dale was born with Cerebral Palsy and lived his entire life with this disability until he passed away the afternoon of April 28, 2019 at the Windom hospital. As a child Dale attended the first school in Windom for the handicapped. He had fairly good mobility as a young man and helped on the family farm in many ways including driving tractor, mowing lawn, raising chickens, loading hay, and helping with the garden. Besides helping on the farm, Dale had a keen interest in electronics and made use of his trips to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with his uncle Walter Hensel to purchase a variety of tape players, walkie-talkies and other gadgets that occupied a lot of his free time. He was quite skilled with electronics and even made the first fan to be used in the farmhouse out of car parts. Dale enjoyed traveling and made a couple of trips to the Seattle, Washington area to spend time with family. He loved a variety of music and was also an avid Johnny Carson fan, probably seeing every episode of the late-night hit. Dale's mobility changed as he got older and during the 1980's he was less involved with the farm and spent his time helping around the house and yard. He was often seen puttering around the farm on an ATV, including his Kawasaki Mule. In the summer of 1994, the challenges of Dale's condition led him to become a resident of the Sogge Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Windom where he spent the duration of his life. He was blessed by the experience as his physical situation was somewhat improved by the quality care he received and he made many good friends there. He helped out with various tasks around the nursing home including delivering paperwork for nurses and was awarded the Windom Mayor's Medal of Honor in 2000 in recognition of his efforts. He was also known for raising African Violets and having fun toys and gadgets in his room that visitors enjoyed trying out. He always made his visitors feel welcome and had a contagious laugh. Dale spent the last few days of his life in the Windom hospital where he passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at the age of 81 years and 70 days. Dale became a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church by repentance of sin and baptism by immersion at Fort Ridgley State Park on June 18, 1955 at the age of 17 on his mother's birthday. The faith and courage he displayed while living with his disability has been an inspiration to many. Dale is survived by his brothers Edwin and his wife Doris of Windom, Alfred Eigenberg of Heron Lake, and Leonard and his wife Norma of Heron Lake; nieces and nephews Dan Eigenberg and his wife Cheryl of Selah, Washington, Karen Cress and her husband John of Glendale, California, Beth Hendrick and her husband Gale of the Sacramento, California area, Steve Eigenberg and his wife Kim of the Sacramento, California area, Judy Burleson of the Sacramento, California area, Sherilyn Malloy of Eagle Lake, Bruce Eigenberg of Heron Lake, and Jim Eigenberg and his wife Ruth of Heron Lake; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant brother Raymond and his parents, grandparents, and aunts and uncles.
