Obituary

Dale Minion was born on August 17, 1941, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota to the late Reuben and Lily (Redding) Minion. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bingham Lake Methodist Church. Dale received his early education at Bingham Lake School District #8 and graduated from Windom High School in the Class of 1959. On April 27, 1963, Dale was united in marriage to LaVonne Sogge at the Hauges Lutheran Church in rural Bergen, after selling his go-cart to buy LaVonne's wedding ring. Their marriage was blessed with two children: Daren and Karen. The family made their home in Bingham Lake. Dale started working at Minion Excavating as soon as he was old enough to reach the foot pedals on the equipment. Reuben, Dale, Daren and the crew built roads all over Southwestern Minnesota. In December, 2017, Dale became ill, and took time off from Minion Excavating. He planned to be back at work this summer. In April, Dale closed Minion Excavating after 89 years in business. He was recently placed in hospice care at home, and passed away there on Friday, May 11, 2018, at age 76 years. Throughout Dale's illness, he was surrounded by family and friends. Dale was a longtime member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom. He was very active in Bingham Lake, as a member of the Fire Department and the City Council, where he served as Mayor, and as the Water and Sewer Department Supervisor. Dale's interests included NASCAR racing, NHRA Drag Racing, the Butterfield Threshing Bee and the Prairieland Antique Car Club. He loved Chrysler products, including his 1964 & 1969 Chrysler Newport convertibles and Daren's 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. He had great stories about tearing up the roads of Cottonwood County in his legendary bright red 1961 Dodge Dart. Dale will be remembered as a kind, caring person who would help anyone. Dale is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, LaVonne Minion of Bingham Lake; two children, Daren Dale Minion of Bingham Lake; Karen (Scott) Wonderlich of Little Falls; three grandchildren, Autumn Rose Wonderlich, Forest Arthur Dale Wonderlich and Ciara Marie Minion; two sisters, Margaret Kipfer of Churchville, NY; Audrey Maras of Worthington; brother-in-law, Duane (Jane) Sogge of Milaca; and many close nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dale is preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Mary Jane Lauseng.
