Darnell Metteer was born on January 17, 1941 in Springfield, Minnesota to the late Melvin and Grace (Finger Hecter) Metteer. He was baptized in Boley, Oklahoma. Darnell served his country in the United States Army until being honorably discharged.
On February 26, 1976, he was united in marriage to Helen Metteer. This marriage was later dissolved. For many years, Darnell was a carpenter and truck driver for many years until retired in 1983.
Darnell had many enjoyments in life which included fishing, hunting, truck driving, gardening, remodeling, mechanic, race cars, making wood jewelry boxes and knick knack shelves, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Recently, Darnell's health began to decline and he was placed in hospice care in his home in Windom. It was there that he passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, December 15, 2016, at the age of 75 years.
Darnell is survived by his four children, Michael "Mike" Angela Metteer of Heron Lake; Missy (Kevin) Foight of Windom; Karla (Lance) Luckow of Nampa, Idaho; Traci (Perez) of Oklahoma; ex-wife, Helen Metteer of Windom; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Darnell is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jean Ellen Metteer; granddaughter, Brandi Marie Metteer; brothers, Delvin, Devonne and Dewayne Metteer; and sister, Shirley Vogel.
