A Memorial Service for Darryl “Bud” Iverson, age 96, of Bloomington, Minnesota, formerly of Jackson, Minnesota, will be held on Wednesday, September 23rd at 1:00 PM at Presbyterian Homes in Bloomington.

A Graveside Service for Darryl will be held Thursday, September 24th at 1:30 PM at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Jackson.

Darryl John “Bud” Iversen was born on January 30, 1930, on the Iversen family farm homestead in Jackson County, MN. He was the second of nine children and the eldest son. He attended a one room schoolhouse, then graduated from Jackson High School. Darryl’s military service in the army included being a paratrooper.

Darryl married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Kay Benda on February 10, 1951. They raised their five children on the family farm. He was actively engaged in farming throughout his whole life and enjoyed traveling and dancing with his wife Mary throughout their golden years.

Darryl was hardworking, kind, and always looking out for others. He was the strong, silent type, unless he felt it necessary to be otherwise. When he did speak, it was often profound, witty, or wise. “It’s one thing to speak about something. It’s another to have knowledge about what it is you’re talking about. It’s important to keep them separate and to know the difference,” Darryl commented a month before his passing.

Darryl died peacefully and surrounded by family at Presbyterian Homes in Bloomington, Minnesota, on September 19, 2026, at the age of 96.

Darryl is survived by: his children, Brenda Schanilec (Gaylord) of Stockholm, Wisconsin, Gary Iversen (Eileen) of Arlington, South Dakota, and Lisa Iversen of Bellingham, Washington; son-in law, Jim Mosel; grandchildren, Melissa Siebersma (Steve), Ian Iversen, Chris Iversen (Melissa), Jamie Mosel (Tim), Nick Schanilec (Connor), Madeline Mosel, Paul Mosel, and Kellia Hoyle; great-grandchildren, Steve, Carter, Jackson, Isabelle, Brycen, and Aubree Iversen; and siblings, Audrey O’Connor, Mary Ann Naylor, Burton Iversen, Peter Iversen (Janet), June Jaeger, Janet Gunderson (Lenny).

Darryl was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 65 years, Mary Kay (Benda) Iversen; his parents, John and Ann (Lee) Iversen; Mary’s parents, Frank and Elsie Benda; children, Debbie and Laurie Iversen; son-in-law, Rich Hoyle; siblings, Warren Iversen and Charlet (Iversen) Hannon; niece, Jill Naylor; and in-laws, Bob O’Connor, Dianne Iversen, LuJean Iversen, Denny Jaeger, Ward Naylor, and Viola Iversen.

These Hands accomplished every task I set out to accomplish, whether it was long days of hard work on the farm, providing for my family, or quietly helping others without ever asking for recognition.

These Hands enjoyed holding my wife close as we danced together, carrying a kind of love and steadiness that could be seen without words.

These Hands offered a firm, reassuring handshake that reflected my character — strong, honest, and dependable.

These Hands taught my children how to work hard, not just through instruction, but through example, showing us the value of dedication, responsibility, and perseverance every single day.

These hands hold the wisdom of a lifetime.

Darryl was a role model for so many and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives he touched. The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at Presbyterian Homes of Bloomington for their many years of loving care of Darryl and so many elders.
