David Carl Koob was born on June 6, 1939, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was adopted by the late Carl Theodore and Freda (Gustafson) Koob in 1941. He was baptized in June of 1939 at the Cathedral of St. Paul in St. Paul, Minnesota and was later confirmed at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom. From 1941-1955, David lived in Windom and then in 1955, he moved to Jeffers where he lived and graduated from high school in 1957. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Alaska and Mississippi. In 1961, he was honorably discharged and moved to Minneapolis where he enrolled and graduated from Brown Institute. On November 17, 1962, David was united in marriage to Nydeen Loma Herbst in Iowa Falls, Iowa. This marriage was blessed with two children, Kelli and Erik. After marriage, David and Nydeen lived in Iowa and then Mankato before moving back to Jeffers where they continued living. For eight years, David worked for Town-n-Country Appliance in Windom before opening his own business, Dave's TV in Jeffers, which operated for twenty-three years until 2000. David then worked for Artesyn Technologies in Redwood Falls, Minnesota until his retirement in 2007. In retirement, he worked part-time at the Cottonwood County Historical Society in Windom until 2008. David had a life-long struggle with Crohn's Disease. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and fought the disease courageously until passing away peacefully, with his family at his bedside, at the age of 70. David was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers. He also was a member of the Jeffers Volunteer Fire Department, Jeffers Business Club, Meals on Wheels Volunteer and the Jeffers Cemetery Board. David had many interests in life which included photography, reading, history, electronics, gardening and traveling. He was an avid film and old movie buff. David is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Nydeen Koob of Jeffers; two children, Kelli Kristine Koob and partner, Richard Stenstrom of Minneapolis; Erik David Koob of Jeffers; three brothers, Paul Koob and his wife, Shirley, of Lakeland,, MN; Edward Schmotzer and his wife, Hilda, of New Strawn, KS; Donald Agnew and his wife, Karen, of Graham, WA; and many nieces and a nephew. David is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Gary Agnew. Blessed be the memory of David Carl Koob.
