David Harold Voehl, age 49, was born on May 28, 1977, in Worthington, Minnesota, to Harold and Pauline (Benson) Voehl. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rost Township. David attended Heron Lake-Okabena-Lakefield Schools and graduated with the class of 1996. He continued his education at Minnesota State University, Mankato, where he earned his teaching degree in Physical Education and Health. He also obtained his real estate and appraiser licenses.
David met the love of his life, Jessica Giesen, and the two were united in marriage on July 22, 2006, at Lutheran Church of Our Savior. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter, Shala, who was truly their pride and joy.
David was a man of faith, family, friendship, and community. He had a remarkable ability to stay connected with people and build friendships that lasted a lifetime. He was social, genuine, caring, kindhearted, supportive, hardworking, dedicated, and intelligent. David also had a wonderful sense of humor and had a way of making people feel welcome and valued. His friendships meant a great deal to him, and he never seemed to meet a stranger.
David enjoyed many things in life, especially those that allowed him to spend time outdoors or surrounded by the people he loved. He enjoyed farming, boating, snowmobiling, playing pool, sprint car racing, and watching sports. He loved helping others and giving back to his community. David was the kind of person who was always willing to lend a hand, share a laugh, or simply be there when someone needed him.
His commitment to his community was evident through the many ways he served. David served as president of the Jackson County Library Board and president of the JCC Education Foundation. He also served for five years as a trustee at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where he was a faithful member. Through these roles and countless other acts of service, David made a meaningful difference in the lives of those around him.
Above all, David treasured his family. His love for Jessica and Shala was evident in everything he did, and the time he spent with them was among his greatest joys. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a caring son and brother, and a loyal friend. His presence brought warmth, laughter, and connection to the lives of so many.
Left to cherish David’s memory is his loving wife, Jessica; daughter, Shala; mother, Pauline Voehl; sister, Denise (Doug) Poncelet; nephews, Caleb Poncelet, Trevor Giesen, and Keaton Giesen; mother-in-law, Barb Pieske; brother-in-law, James Giesen; cherished fur babies, Gia, Illa, and Red; along with many dear friends and extended family members who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
David was preceded in death by his father, Harold Voehl; grandparents, Silas and Nina Benson and Marcella and Emanuel Voehl; along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
David leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith, friendship, and service. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched. Though his time with them was far too short, the memories he created and the love he gave will remain a lasting part of those who knew and loved him.
