Dean J. Flatebo, age 86, passed away peacefully at the hospital, on Saturday, August 7, 2021, after a battle with cancer. Dean was born on July 26, 1935, to Ole and Agnes (Albertson) Flatebo in Mountain Lake, Minnesota; the fourth of four siblings. As a child, Dean lived on a farm outside of Storden, Minnesota, where he attended grade school at the "red, white and blue" country schoolhouse. He graduated from Windom High School in the Class of 1953. On March 26, 1955, he married his wife, Marilyn (Fenske) Flatebo. They lived in Santa Barbara, California for twelve years, until ultimately buying their farm in Christiana Township in Jackson County, Minnesota, where they lived for 32 years. Dean loved it on the farm. He would take his grandkids fishing on the river. There was plenty of pheasant hunting, and of course he would always get the first deer at "his spot", where the creek came off the river into the pasture. Everyone knows his love for John Deere tractors, not to mention cars. Dean worked hard all his life with Santa Barbara County, Ag-Chem and Toro, along with farming after work. He served six years in the Army National Guard as an Artillery Man in Windom, Minnesota. After Dean retired, they spent many winters in Texas. Dean is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn (Fenske) Flatebo, children Gene (Janet) Flatebo of Mission, TX; Connie (Richard) Balling of Mercedes, TX; Craig Flatebo of Lakefield, MN; and Dawn (Tom) Glidden of Bingham Lake, MN; 16 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and one sister Arlene Ziener of Willmar, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Agnes; one sister, Beverly Rogers; and his twin brother, Dale Flatebo. Blessed be the memory of Dean J. Flatebo.
