Dean Maynard Johnson was born on August 12, 1948 in Windom, Minnesota to Maurice and Gjetrud (Hammer) Johnson. He was baptized and later confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Bergen, Minnesota. He received his education from Windom Public Schools where he graduated in 1966. After high school, Dean attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and graduated in 1970. After graduating from college, Dean continued to live in Sioux Falls where he worked at Fantles as a buyer until it closed. He then went to work as a sales rep for a grocery distribution company. In his later years, Dean worked part-time at Walmart, Kiebler and a Casino. Recently, Dean's health began to decline and he was hospitalized in Sioux Falls. He passed away at Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls on Saturday evening, December 3, 2016 at the age of 68. Dean was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Bergen, Minnesota. He enjoyed softball, fantasy football and watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. He will be remembered for never forgetting his family on their birthdays by always sending them a birthday card. He loved spending time with his family and friends and they loved spending time with him. Dean is survived by his brother, Myron Johnson and his wife, Sherry, of St. James; sister, Carol Ihrke of Blair, NE; step-daughter, Meshael Davis and her family of Sioux Falls, SD; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Gene Ihrke. Blessed be the memory of Dean Johnson.
