Delbert Paul Pomerenke was born on March 19, 1934, to the late Louis August and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Pomerenke, on the farm in West Heron Lake Township. Delbert was baptized as an infant and later confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Okabena. Delbert graduated from Okabena High School and continued his education at the University of Minnesota, where he earned a Bachelor of Education degree in 1956.
On September 3, 1960, Delbert was united in marriage to Janice Ebeling. The couple was blessed with three children, Bill, Sara and John.
In his early career, Delbert taught high school in Brewster and Wood Lake, Minnesota and adult Vo-Ag in Windom, before purchasing Hillside Greenhouse in 1960. He owned and operated Hillside Greenhouse in Windom for fifty years, bringing happiness and creating memories with flowers for weddings, birthdays, funerals, proms, and holidays as well as growing bedding plants for many of Windom's residents. Delbert retired in 2010.
Delbert was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Windom. His religion was very important to him. His hobbies included spending time with his close-knit family of relatives, gardening and following farming. If you knew Delbert, you knew that two of his favorite pastimes were playing his accordion and listening to "Oompah" (Polka) music. He was an excellent accordion player, and the instrument was one of his most cherished possessions. His favorite show was KEYC tv's Bandwagon. He loved to share his knowledge and discuss the area polka bands.
On Sunday evening, January 19th, after a brief illness, Delbert passed away peacefully at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Left to cherish his memory, are his wife of 64 years, Janice Pomerenke of Windom; children, Bill (Paula) Pomerenke of Apple Valley, Sara (Jeff) Pingeon of Waconia, and John Pomerenke of Waite Park; grandson, Kyle (Jenn) Pingeon of Northglenn, CO, and granddaughter, Kelly (Jacob) Tee of Milwaukee, WI; sister, Marles Lange of Windom; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Pomerenke of Lakefield and Annette Ebeling of Milford, IA; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Lizzie; and siblings, Loren, Eldon, Donald and Kenneth Pomerenke, Lois Behrens and LaVonne Pfeil.
Delbert loved his family and making others happy through flowers. He is now in heaven and able to enjoy both in eternity. Blessed be the memory of Delbert Paul Pomerenke.
