Obituary

Delores Louise Horkey was born July 9, 1929 near Storden, MN to Theodore J. and Louise (Lendt) Baas. Until the 6th grade, she attended rural school in Amo township. She completed her formal education at Storden High School and graduated in the class of 1947. On September 28, 1947, Delores was united in marriage to Delton Horkey at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook, MN. Delton and Delores had five sons. Following their marriage, they moved to Windom which became their residence until the present time. With Delton being a skilled carpenter, they lived and raised their family as they built five different homes through their years together. Since moving to Windom, Delores has been a dedicated member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior and has served in numerous ways. She taught Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, and Release Time. She served as a member of LWML, Ladies Aid, Christian Growth leader, the Church Choir, and the funeral committee. At various times, she contributed her talents as chairperson for several of the groups. As a homemaker and mother of five sons, she found time to serve her community on the Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, RSVP, and the Sonshine Preschool. Delores worked with Norma Horkey at the Fabric Shop and Kim Horkey at Natural Light Photography. As well, she had been coordinator of the Plum Creek Food Co-op. She and Delton enjoyed traveling to different parts of our country, bowling, playing cards, and fishing. Reading and sewing would also occupy her spare time. Delton died on December 12, 2001. She continued to live in their home near Cottonwood Lake until moving into Mikkelson Manor and to Sogge Good Samaritan Center due to declining health. She died on January 10, 2020 at the age of 90 years. Her grateful family includes: Bruce and Mari Horkey of Windom; Jody and Norma Horkey of Crawford, NE; Kim and Roxanne Horkey of Custer, SD; Ted and Deb Horkey of Windom; and Todd Horkey of Franklin, MN; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; and sister, Marlys Detterling of Baudette, MN also survive her.
