Delores Myrtle
Malmgren
Dec 13, 1930 — Feb 24, 2025
A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of DeLores Malmgren age 94, of Faribault, formerly of Windom, will be held at American Lutheran Church in Windom on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with a time of visitation and gathering from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Windom.
DeLores Myrtle (Koep) Malmgren was born on December 13, 1930, in Lakefield, Minnesota, to Frank and Clara (Kolander) Koep. She was baptized into the Christian faith. DeLores received her education in the Lakefield Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1948.
On March 13, 1954, DeLores married Jack Malmgren. This union was blessed with three children: Kim, Kevin, and Lynne.
Before her marriage, DeLores worked for her father at Koep Motor Sales doing bookkeeping. She and Jack farmed in Jackson County until 1972, when they moved to Windom. There, DeLores worked at fabric stores and at Ann's Shop.
DeLores was talented in many areas. She was an excellent cook and baker, a fabulous seamstress who made her own clothes, and she won Homemaker of the Year in the early 1970s. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, and playing cards. DeLores was an avid fan of sports, including football (both the Vikings and the Gophers), baseball (Minnesota Twins), and basketball
(Minnesota Timberwolves). She was an accomplished golfer, often playing at Loon Lake Golf Course.
DeLores and Jack lived on the shores of Cottonwood Lake where they spent countless hours with family and friends. Whether out boating or just sitting on the deck, this was the family's happy place.
In September 2021, DeLores moved to Mill City Senior Living in Faribault. She passed away peacefully there on February 24, 2025, at the age of 94 years.
DeLores will be dearly missed by her children: Kim (Joan) Malmgren of New Prague, Kevin (Holly) Malmgren of Castle Pines, CO, and Lynne (Dan) Grabanski of Faribault; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; nine great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Bev (Robert) Brown and Janell Weber.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents, Frank and Clara Koep; her parents-in-law, Don and Rachel Malmgren; and her brother in-law, Roland Weber.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mill City Senior Living for the loving care they provided.
Blessed be the memory of DeLores Myrtle Malmgren.
