A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Delores Steffen, age 92, of Lakefield, will be held Friday, December 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM, with a time of visitation and gathering from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Lakefield.

The service will be livestreamed on the Immanuel Lutheran Church Facebook page.

Delores Elaine Steffen was born at home on the farm on January 25, 1932, to the late Harry and Rose (Lueck) Steffen in Hunter Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. She was baptized into the Christian faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield on March 20, 1932. She was later confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran on May 30, 1948. Luke 11:28 was her constant reminder of God's blessings in her life.

Delores had a playful childhood with her siblings. She grew up taking care of a variety of animals: cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, cats, and their family dog. She attended country school, district 84, and later attended Lakefield Public School. After her education, Delores continued to help with the family farm, milking cows and gathering chicken eggs. Sometime later Delores moved to Good Thunder, Minnesota, and began working at the Mankato Rehabilitation Center. There she would partake in all sorts of activities: shopping, bowling, Twins games, and of course, a good game of 500. She was an avid fan of Wheel of Fortune and playing the quarter machines at Jackpot Junction, but never on the third Wednesday, which was reserved for Card Club at the Multi-Purpose Center.

After she retired from the Mankato Rehabilitation Center, Delores moved into Doman-Rose Place in Lakefield. There she worked as a volunteer, caring for the facilities in the residence's common areas. When Doman-Rose closed in 2021, Delores moved into the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson. Delores was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving on the funeral committee, helping with the church newsletter, and quilting with the church ladies.

Delores Steffen passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson.

Delores is survived by her brother, Lloyd Steffen of Williston, FL; sister-in-law, Judith Steffen of Gainesville, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Rose Steffen; brothers, Eugene, Harlan, and Warren Steffen; infant brothers, Vernon and Paul Steffen; sisters, Gretchen Wendel, Bernice Tusa; an infant sister; brothers-in-law, Harold Wendel and Henry Tusa; sisters-in-law, Helen Steffen, Clarabelle Steffen Lueck, and Christine Steffen.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial donations in memory of Delores Steffen are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
