Denice "Grandma Susie" Scheff, age 90, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at the Deer River Health Care Center in Deer River, Minnesota. Denice Adele (Morton) Scheff was on born May 15, 1931, to the late Archie and Huldah (Boyle) Morton, in Fairmont. She attended school in Fairmont, graduating with the Fairmont High School Class of 1949. On October 21, 1949, Denice was united in marriage to Arlo Henry Scheff. In the younger years, Arlo and Susie lived in Ceylon, Fairmont, Joliet IL and Marquand MO until moving to Marcell in 1968. Through the years, Susie held various positions where she was very devoted and treasured at each. She was a lead cook at Richie's Café, cleaned cabins, worked at the US Post Office, and helped count election ballots every election year. Susie's most treasured position was the lead bookkeeper at Scheff Logging, which she held for 30 years, with great dedication, until retiring in 2020. Susie enjoyed reading her bible daily, quilting, sewing, crossword puzzles, cooking, baking, traveling, and shopping; but nothing was better than her time with her family. Susie also loved her jewelry and always looked nice, even while sitting at home in her last year, she always looked nice. Everyone loved Susie…. She will always be remembered for her quick, sarcastic wit, along with her deep love for family. Even during her last days, she had her kids in stiches by her bedside, as they laughed and cried alongside her. Denice is survived by her children, Jennifer (Tom) Lutterman of Madelia, MN; Lynette Lyytinen of Marcell; James Scheff and Holly McDonald of Marcell; Jeff Scheff and Nancy Probst of Marcell; and David Scheff and Tammy Hammerlund of Marcell; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, June Morton, Betty Scheff, Lylas Scheff, LeRoy and Valera Scheff and Leo Krumholz; and many nieces and nephews. Denice was preceded in death by her parents, Archie & Huldah Morton; husband, Arlo Henry Scheff (March 14, 2003); three brothers Gary, Jerry, Gail Morton; one infant brother, Gregory Arlo; one sister, Janis Martin; an infant granddaughter, Katrina Lutterman; and a daughter-in-law, Lisa Leonhard "Scheff".
