He received his early education in country school in the Storden area and graduated from Storden High School in the Class of 1962. Dennis was baptized at a young age on September 10, 1944, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden and later confirmed at the Highwater Lutheran Church in rural Lamberton.
On August 10, 1963, Dennis was united in marriage to Bette Jo Wipperman at the Faith Lutheran Church in Westbrook (known today as Grace Lutheran Church). This marriage was blessed with three children, Tamara, Troy and Kimberly. Dennis and Bette Jo farmed for many years north of Storden where they raised their three children. Dennis lived to watch each crop from planting to harvest. Bette Jo passed away on July 9, 2006. After her death, Dennis continued to live on the farm. Recently, Dennis became very ill and was placed in hospice care at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. He passed away there peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the age of 80 years.
Dennis was a longtime, dedicated member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden where he was on the church council for many years and the treasurer. Dennis was also involved in his community as a member of the Storden Township Board for around 40 years and the Storden Area Men's Club. He also had many enjoyments in life which included being a member of softball and golf leagues, attending sporting events, dancing, music and socializing.
Dennis is survived by his three children, Tamara (Paul) Fishel of Worthington; Troy (Lisa) Erickson of Westbrook; Kimberly (David) Anderson of Waverly; 8 grandchildren, Corey Fishel, Christa Walz, Ciara Whitcomb, Cassandra Kullman, Jacob Erickson, Carissa Vander Lugt, Mariah Anderson and Natasha Erickson; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Erickson of Storden; and many nieces and nephews.
