Don Day was born on September 14, 1943, in Prosperity, PA to John Jr. and G. Jayne Day. He was baptized and later confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Prosperity, Pennsylvania. He received his education from Upper Darby High School in Pennsylvania. Don attended Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He was recruited by the Philadelphia Phillies and the Baltimore Orioles, but chose to finish his undergraduate degree and went on to graduate school at the University of Illinois in Champagne/Urbana where he graduated with his Master of Science degree. Don was the first person inducted into the Hall of Fame at Delaware Valley College for wrestling and baseball. In April of 1982, Don was united in marriage to Mary Schuetz Hubbard in Anoka, MN. After their marriage, Don and Mary lived all over the world as Don pursued his career in the beef industry where he spent forty-six years. Most recently, Don was working at PM Beef in Windom, Minnesota. On Wednesday, October 3, 2012, Don suffered a massive stroke and was taken to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Don passed away on Sunday morning, October 7, 2012, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with his family by his side at the age of 69. Don was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Windom. He was also a member of the Windom Lions Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Windom Country Club. Don enjoyed all sports, reading, playing cards, and was an avid golfer. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Don is survived by his loving wife, Mary Day of Windom; four children, Paul Day and his wife, Ethel, of Lincoln University, PA; Michelle Allen and her husband, Kevin, of Beaumont, TX; Denise Driscoll and her husband, Bill, of Hatboro, PA; and Brandi Goeser and her husband, Brian, of Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren; four sisters, Debra Brumfield and her husband, Dr. Bob, of Colorado Springs, CO; Sue Stahl and her husband, Gray, of Norfolk, VA; Karen Callahan and her husband, Dr. Mike, of Galeton, PA; and Cindy English and her husband, Tim, of New Smyrna Beach, FL; one brother-in-law, Jon Schuetz and his wife, Dee, of Plattsmouth, NE; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Randall and J.C. Day. Blessed be the memory of Don Day. Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association.
